Product management is broken. Let's fix it.
Product management is broken. For a role that carries so much responsibility, we still don’t have a shared playbook even though plenty of smart people have taken a crack at writing one. We argue about frameworks and whether PMs own process or outcomes (hint: it’s outcomes) while companies of all sizes rely on us to guide the product forward.
This blog is my attempt to offer something better: lessons from the wild. Most of my experience is in B2B and B2B2C SaaS and data products, but the themes apply no matter the industry or company size.
Great products don’t come from some “visionary” with perfect instincts. They come from feedback loops. The process of iterating with customers until the value is clear and they’re ready to cut a check. Only then should engineering take over and turn the idea into reality.
It’s not about guessing right the first time. It’s about creating a system that makes being right inevitable. That’s how I build products, and why this blog exists.
Here you’ll find stories, mistakes, frameworks, and opinions on what it really takes to build products and product teams that deliver.
I’m Taylor, an accidental product manager. I started in data analytics, then data engineering before finding a home in product. Since then, I’ve worked at bootstrapped and venture backed startups, talking to customers that range from SMBs to Fortune 500s.
Data products are my specialty, and I love the opportunity to help people get real value from their data. Today, I lead product at a Series A startup helping universities and students understand and apply alumni outcomes data.
Outside of work, I’m into good restaurants, the rare times the Dallas Cowboys win a big game, and exploring cities with my wife.
